If by demo farms you mean actual plantings, you can visit Nueva Ecija and ask the Provincial Agriculturist to show you the hundreds of hectares planted to sweet sorghum. If you are nearer the Ilocos Region, you can go to MMSU which is in Batac, Ilocos Norte and see on campus plantings of sweet sorghum. In the nearby town of Bugnay, you can see a village-scale cane crusher and the villagers can show you sweet sorghum and tell you more. If you are so inclined, you can contact w.dar@cgiar.org (ICRISAT, India, the giver of seeds of sweet sorghum) or hlayaoen@yahoo.com (MMSU Batac), the pioneer sweet sorghum planter scientist.

Your articles on sweet sorghum are very persuasive. Can you please direct me to where I can see a demo farm in Luzon and also where I can check out the financial costs and benefits of this crop?

Sir Frank:

Indeed, this was a significant event and it happened where the impact of the smart crop can reaaly be felt if adopted by a great number of farmers. Cabiao in Nueva Ecija had a field day a week after the Batac confab and no less than 300 farmers were at hand to appreciate sweet sorghum stands, juice and menus out of the grains. I hope that they could duplicate the village type milling that was modeled in bungon in Batac city. Ating alamin recently filmed a barangay techno demo of sweet sorghum in Barangay Navaling in Magalang pampanga. They also documented training for menu preparations out of sweet sorghum grains.
